December was a very exciting month in LETNS 5th Class. The children had the winter assembly on Friday the 15th of December, they choose the theme diversity for the assembly and the song ‘firework’ by Katy Perry. They learned sign language for the chorus of the song and explored how we are all unique but special individually. They also had a visit from Gerard from the Deaf & Dumb Organisation (that is part of the HSE) to talk to them about his life and his job. He gave the children a real insight into his daily routine and talked to them about sign being officially a national language now in Ireland having been passed on the 14th of December. The children signed the song by Katy Perry and Gerard was very impressed and he taught them some extra signs. December was also a cold month and the children took full advantage of the snow in the playground, have a look at the video below to see the fun they had. The children also got the opportunity to visit An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny to watch one of their classmates, Jennifer in action in The Nutcracker. As we head into 2018 keep an eye out for operation transformation activities on our web page.
