We have been having a great time in 5th class during our Jiu Jitsu lessons with Shane over the last few weeks. Everybody is really enjoying the lessons and we are getting fitter and fitter!! Shane has taught us some self defence and has told us that it’s important to be respectful and that Jiu Jitsu is only ever to be used if you have no other choice. He is a wonderful teacher and we are looking forward to more wonderful lessons with him.
Meditation has been a daily feature in our classroom during November. We take time at 12pm every day to meditate and reflect. We have tried lots of different forms of meditation. We make ourselves comfortable and concentrate on our breathing during meditation.
Some of the children in our class like guided meditation and others prefer to listen to peaceful, calming music. We have talked about what we like about meditation and we made some beautiful mandalas to show what meditation looks like to us.
Our mandalas are on display in the school along with some of our thoughts on meditation. We even made some beautiful origami butterflies for our display.
Meditation has become a very important part of our daily routine and we hope to continue meditating every day!
We are currently learning about World War I and this week the children are doing a project on WWI for homework. They have spent the entire week researching and putting their information together. Some of the children chose to research the role of women during the war and some did projects on the role of children during the war whilst others completed projects on tanks! We are finding the topic very interesting but also very sad. We got to read a letter written by a 9 year old Irish boy to Lord Kitchener that was written in 1914. It was incredible to read a letter written by a 9 year old boy that was written over 100 years ago. We were also very lucky to receive a wonderful resource in the post from Historic Newspapers . We will upload some of our work on World War I for you to see next week!
We are writing reports during our English lessons and the children all chose an animal to write a report about. Everyone researched their chosen animal and wrote a report. There was such a huge variety of animals from the platypus to the great white owl. If you would like to see some of our work you can read this wonderful report that Ziya wrote about cheetahs.
We are having lots of fun and hopefully in our next blog post we will be able to give you an update on our fantastic flying machines!!!
Thank you for reading!
